Wild Wednesday: Insect Safari

Become an entomologist for a day and learn all about insects. We will be using field guides, nets and bug boxes to catch and identify as many insects as we can. This program will highlight some scout requirements.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
31st Annual Wildwoods BASH
Friday, September 9 at 5 pm
$70 per person for open seating / reserved sponsorship tables available for $250. - $5,000.           
This al fresco event includes a gourmet dinner, live music and an auction of nature and outdoor inspired items. Proceeds support Ogden Nature Center’s mission to unite people with nature and nurture appreciation and stewardship of the environment. Xeriscaping Your Lawn

Tired of wrestling with your sprinkler system all summer long?  Looking for a simple way to conserve water in your everyday life? Fermentation for Foodies
Saturday, September 10 from 2-4 pm

Since the end of the Stone Age, with the start of farming practices, humans have utilized fermentation to produce interesting flavors and textures in beverages and foods. Used in cultures worldwide, fermentation is a natural food preservation process that produces some of our most beloved sour foods and sparkly beverages. You may not realize that your favorite cravings or secret ingredients, like pickles, sauerkraut, kimchi, vinegars, and yogurt, are fermented. Come make a bottle of herbed vinegar and sample a couple of fermented flavor sensations as you learn about the history and usefulness of this natural process, as well as its potential benefits. Four counter top pickling kits will be available for sale for an additional $12. paid in cash to the presenter the night of the class. RVSP to 801-621-7595 by September 6.
 
Wild Wednesday: Stinky Tales- Badgers, Otters, & Skunks

Investigate the smelly world of mustelids. Explore a local endangered mustelid and find out why the skunk, although smelly, doesn’t fit in this group anymore. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Preschool Discovery Days: Colorful Creatures

$5 members and groups of 5 or more students / $6 for non-members                                
Ages: 3-5            
Join us as we explore nature’s colors in animals, plants and more! Play games, enjoy stories, sing songs and create some colorful nature art. Our preschool programs are designed for 3-5 year old children. Preschool admission price of $5 for members and $6 for non-member includes 1 child and 1 adult. Preschool groups of 5 or more children are $5 for a child/adult pair; teachers/aides are free with participating class. General admission fees will apply to any additional family members in attendance. A non-refundable deposit of 50% must be paid in advance to pre-register groups of five children or more. Pre-registration is required for all attendees at 801-621-7595.
 
Illustrated Nature Journaling (2 part class)
Session 1: Thursday, September 15 from 6-8 pm
Session 2: Saturday, September 1710-12 pm

This workshop is for those who can’t draw and those who can! Come reconnect with nature through drawing and writing with Ogden artist and naturalist Susan Snyder.  Bring a journal with unlined pages in 90 lb. weight or higher. Susan will provide colored pencils, watercolor pencils and drawing tools for participants to use. Feel free to bring any pens, pencils or watercolors.  Class space limited. This is Your Brain on Nature with David Strayer

Whether we venture into wild backcountry or simply enjoy the nature in our backyards, we have all felt the restorative power of the natural world.  University of Utah Cognitive and Neural Science Professor David Strayer, PhD studies the science behind this restorative power. Join Dr. Strayer for a deep exploration into the profound impact nature has on the human brain.  This event is presented by the Utah Humanities Council Book Festival.
