OCTOBER 2016 ACTIVITIES AT THE OGDEN NATURE CENTER

Fall Folklore and Carving
Thursday, October 13 at 3:45-5:45 pm
$7 for members / $10 for non-members             
Ages: 12 and older            
Join teacher naturalist Kristin Cluskey on an exploration of the origins of our fall traditions. Bring the whole family to learn why we celebrate autumn the way we do, and carve an unexpected vegetable to take home. Space is limited and registration is

Fairy Garden Terrariums
Saturday, October 15 from 12 noon-2 pm
$15 for members / $18 for non-members                                    
Ages 5+
Take a little piece of ONC home with you. Learn to build terrariums and decorate them as fairy gardens. These miniature growing gardens make a beautiful decoration for your home or gifts for friends and family. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Call 801-621-7595 by Thursday, October 13 to reserve your spot. 
 
Scout Saturdays

9 am – Native vs. Invasive
10 am – Conservation
11 am – Venomous Reptiles
$5 per scout / per 45 minute class

The Ogden Nature Center provides the perfect outdoor classroom for scout activities. Have our teacher/naturalists help your scout pass off badge requirements  during these 45 minute mini classes. Reservations and a non-refundable 50% deposit required. Wild Wednesday: Owl Tales

Are owls really wise? Get the answer to that question and many more as we meet two different Ogden Nature Center owls and decode the mysteries that surround these amazing birds.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Birds and Brews
Saturday, October 22 from 12 noon-4 pm

Grab your friends and join the Ogden Nature Center for an Oktoberfest celebration with a feathered twist!  Get to know the Ogden Nature Center’s birds of prey through live animal presentations and test your bird knowledge with pub-style trivia featuring Alleged’s “quiz-master” Tim Kutz. Enjoy free samples and beer by the new Talisman Brewery as well as delicious sandwiches donated by Even Stevens.  Must be 21 or older to attend.  I.D. required. No outside food or drink allowed in the event. 
 
How to Home Solar

Join Weber State University Energy Manager, Justin Owen, at the Ogden Nature Center for a workshop exploring how to get started with home solar. Learn about the basics of solar panels, the many options for home solar in northern Utah, and how to make solar work for your budget! Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Wild Wednesday: Monsters in your Backyard

Come dressed as your favorite wild thing and discover what monsters live at the Ogden Nature Center. Learn why snakes hiss and how tarantulas move. Then test your nerve with a creepy crawly challenge. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
