Wild Wednesdays: Accipiters – Aces of the Forest

Sharpies! Coops! Goshawks!  Utah is home to three types of special raptors called accipiters.  They are what is known as a true hawk.  Learn about their amazing “fighter jet” flying skills and how they can maneuver and survive in forests. Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Flowering plants are the most widespread and successful organisms on the planet! Join us on a senses-engaging plant identification walk around the trails at the Ogden Nature Center. Then, take a closer look at the shapes and structures that help us make sense of the great, green world. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Wild Wednesdays: Fantastic Falcons

What can dive at over 200 miles per hour?  What has a beak that acts like a can opener?  Falcons!  Spend time with Cessna, the Ogden Nature Center’s Peregrine Falcon. Learn what separates falcons from other types of birds.  Then take a short hike with a naturalist to look for signs of falcons at the Ogden Nature Center.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Are you ready to migrate back to school?  Kick off the start of another school year by learning about animal migration.  Meet live animals that migrate and learn how they travel long distances to find food and shelter.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Monarch’s are orange, Scrub Jays are blue, black and white skunks have a message for you. Find out the many different ways critters use color in nature.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
 
FREE R.A.M.P. SUMMER SATURDAYS

The Ogden Nature Center is offering free admission and activities on Saturdays during the summer.  Activities led by a teacher naturalist will be held at 10 am and at 2 pm every Saturday. Just show up and have fun!  Please check in at the Visitor Center front desk.

August 2 – Rock Art!  Remember your visit to the Ogden Nature Center by painting a rock with an added touch of nature’s beauty.
 
August 9 – Bountiful Butterflies and Caterpillars.  Discover the many butterflies that call the Ogden Nature Center their home. Kids will enjoy a catch-and-release activity and then make a fun butterfly craft to remember the adventure.
 
August 16 – Garden Art Décor.  Collect items from nature and transform them into a keepsake for your garden, patio or kitchen counter.  This is a summer favorite and great for all ages.
 
August 23 – Love Those Bugs!  Kids will enjoy a fun story about bugs and learn about their many characteristics, participate in a catch-and-release activity in the field, and make a take-home bug hat that is sure to get a laugh.
