Wild Wednesdays: Fall into Autumn
Wednesday, October 1, 3:45 pm
Free for ONC members
$2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
All ages welcome
Fall has arrived! Help bring in the new season while you learn how animals and plants adapt to a changing environment of less sunlight and cooler temperatures.  Don’t forget to wear your best flannel shirt! Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Illustrated Nature Journaling
Saturday, October 4, 10 am to 12 noon
Ages 12 and up 
(under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult)
Cost:  $5 members / $7 nonmembers 
Join Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist Susan Snyder for a workshop on creating illustrated pages about your connections with nature. Participants will learn tips and tricks for nature-themed journal pages, have time to explore the trails and leave with a completed page. Watercolors and colored pencils will be provided for use. Participants should bring their own journals with blank pages and any other drawing or writing tools they prefer. Space is limited. Reservations required by 4 pm, Friday, October 3 to 801-621-7595.
 
Wild Wednesdays: Owl Tales

Are owls really wise? Get the answer to that question and many more as we meet a few different owls and decode the mysteries that surround these amazing birds. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 

From Bark to Buds: Learning to I.D. Trees
Saturday, October 11 at 10 am  
Cost: $2 members / $5 nonmembers
Spend some time learning to identify the largest plants in the woods----the trees! Join Emily Martin, Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist, as we hike the trails and learn to identify the common trees of Utah during any time of year. Space is limited. Have you ever wondered what a snake feels like?  What about a tortoise shell?  Come find out and get an up close look at the Ogden Nature Center’s resident reptiles. Learn what makes reptiles so special in the animal world.  Meet a live, but endangered, Desert Tortoise and a Great Basin Gopher Snake. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Scout Saturdays
Saturday, October 18
9 am – Native vs. Invasive
10 am – Conservation
11 am – Venomous Reptiles
$5 per scout
The Ogden Nature Center provides the perfect outdoor classroom for scout activities.  Have our teacher/naturalists help your scout pass off badge requirements during these 45 minute classes.  Reservations and a non-refundable deposit are required. Preschool Discovery Days: Things with Wings

$5 per child for preschool groups over 5
Learn that bats, birds and even seeds fly as you explore nature’s winged wonders.  Net insects; enjoy high-flying songs, stories, games and a craft as you learn through hands-on discovery about things with wings. Pre-registration is required for all participants.  Please call 801-621-7595 for information or to reserve your spot. Space is limited.

Utah has 18 species or kinds of bats!  Kick off the Halloween season by learning about these misunderstood and amazing flying mammals. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Creatures of the Night
Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25 from 5 – 8 pm
$5 members / $6 nonmembers
Children 3 and under are free.
Bring the whole family for a non-scary, outdoor adventure. 
• Learn about native creepy creatures like owls, spiders, & snakes -- and meet them up close.
• Take a crepuscular creep around the nature preserve where you’ll meet and learn from some “wild” characters. 
• Find your way through the Spider Web Crawl and visit the Hilarious House of Hoots. 
• Food vendors, carnival type games, treats, music, and educational fun.
No RSVP necessary. Costumes welcome! Please dress for the weather.  Held rain or shine. Flashlights recommended.
 
Wild Wednesdays: Monsters in Your Own Backyard

All ages welcome
Come dressed as your favorite wild thing (anything in nature will do) and discover what “monsters” live at the Ogden Nature Center.  Learn why snakes hiss and how tarantulas move. Then test your nerve with a creepy crawly challenge. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
