Wild Wednesdays: How Much Wood Could a Woodchuck Chuck if a Woodchuck Could Chuck Wood?

Whistle pigs, woodchuck, land beavers, what do you call a groundhog? Groundhogs are famous this time of year for predicting how much longer winter will last. Can they really predict season length? Join us for an in-depth look at this creature and its marmot cousins.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Owl Prowl
Wednesday, February 4 at 6:30 pm
$8 members / $10 non-members
All ages welcome
Join us for an evening walk along our trails in search of owls, deer and other crepuscular and nocturnal creatures that call the Ogden Nature Center home. Cap off the evening with a cup of hot cocoa. Snowshoes will be provided if needed, for ages 3+. Please pre-register by Tuesday, February 3 by calling801-621-7595.

Nature is for Lovers
Saturday, February 7 at 7 pm
$35 couple for members / $40 couple for non-members
Ages: 21 and older only! No children will be admitted 
Come to the Ogden Nature Center for an evening of wine and desserts and learn about love wildlife style! Play a fun couples guessing game about animal mating rituals, and take an optional romantic night walk around the Ogden Nature Center trails. Space is limited and spots fill up quickly. Pre-registration is required. Please RSVP to 801-621-7595 by 4 pm on Friday, February 6.

Seed Swap
Saturday, February 21 from 11 am – 1 pm / workshop at 11 am
Free / donations to the Nature Center accepted
Are you ready to start your 2015 garden?  This is a great opportunity to get excited about the upcoming growing season.  Bring open pollinated and/or heirloom seeds to trade and extra envelopes or bags to collect seeds. You do not have to bring your own seeds to participate.  Some seeds will be for sale.

Wild Wednesdays: Wild Romance: A Special Valentine’s Day Program

Have you ever wondered whether animals flirt with one another?  Come find out during a special Valentine’s Day program. Meet some of the Ogden Nature Center’s resident birds and reptiles and discover the unique ways these animals attract a partner.  Then help make nature-themed Valentines for the birds. Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Eagle Day at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge
Saturday, February 14, 10 am – 3 pm

Meet us in Brigham City at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge for Eagle Day.  Live eagles from the Ogden Nature Center will be on hand from 11 am – 12:30 pm.

Preschool Discovery Days: Walkers, Trotters, Creepers, Crawlers
Choose a date and time: 
Tuesday, February 17 and Wednesday, February 18
9:30 am, 11 am or 1 pm
$5 members / $6 non-members
$5 per child for preschool groups over 5
For ages 3-5 and their accompanying adult
Explore the world of creatures that crawl - on many legs, four legs or no legs at all! Find footprints and patterns on the ground, share songs, stories, games and a craft all about moving through nature. Dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required. Walk-ins will only be accepted when space is available. Classes may be canceled due to low attendance. Please call 801-621-7595 for more information and to register.

Wild Wednesdays: Who’s a Buteo

Meet Sampson the Red-tail Hawk and Jay the Harris Hawk while discovering what makes a buteo a buteo.  Observe firsthand how buteos differ from all other raptors.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

Scout Saturdays
Saturday, February  21 
9am – Native vs. Invasive
10am – Conservation
11am – Venomous Reptiles and Poisonous Plants
$5 per scout/ per class
The Ogden Nature Center provides the perfect outdoor classroom for scout activities. Have the Nature Center’s teacher/naturalists help your scout pass off badge requirements during these 45-minute mini classes. Reservations and a non-refundable deposit (50%) required. Learn about the many amazing mammals that live in Utah and the Great Basin region. Touch skulls and pelts and learn what makes mammals unique.  Learn why you are a mammal!  Take a short walk with an Ogden Nature Center naturalist to observe live deer and possibly other mammals at the Ogden Nature Center.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
