Wild Wednesdays: The Wild Truth: An April Fool’s Day Program

All ages welcome

Nature can weave some pretty tall tales, but that doesn’t mean they’re not true.  Come out to the Ogden Nature Center and test your nature knowledge with a true or false game, then explore some of the most unbelievable animals and plants on the planet.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

 

Egg-cellent Adventure --Birds not Bunnies Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 4, 9am -12 noon

Ages 6+

$4 members / $6 non-members  - includes admission to the Nature Center

Are you ready for a unique Easter egg hunt? Join the Ogden Nature Center’s teacher/naturalists on a true egg hunt challenge.  Spring is the season for new birth. In this activity participants will learn about nesting birds found around the Nature Center and try their hand at bird identification. Several nests with painted wooden eggs will be the object of the hunt as you make your way along the trails. Locate and record your finds from each nest to win a prize. Make and take crafts and bird stuff to explore. Please RSVP to 801-621-7595 by 5pm on Friday, April 3rd.  Please dress for an outdoor adventure.

*Please note this is not a traditional plastic egg hunt.

Not recommended for children under 6 years old.

 

Earth Day Poster Contest Call for Entries

Entries must be received by 4 pm, Saturday, April 4

Late entries may not be judged

No Fee to Enter

Entries must be 9”x12” using the theme, “Earth’s Pollinators.”  Please do not glue anything onto your project. Entries must include the following information on the back:

            Name (first and last)

            School

            Grade (k-6 only)

            Teacher

            Home Phone

            Project Title

            Email

Art posters will be on display in the Ogden Nature Center’s LS Peery Education Center April 18 through May 16, 2015.  Entries will not be returned, but may be picked up May 18 through May 23. After May 23 contest entries become the property of the Ogden Nature Center.  Prizes will be awarded to three winners in each grade, with one grand prize winner per grade.  The winners will be invited to an awards program on Earth Day,April 18, at 11 am.

 

 

Wild Wednesdays: Colorful Confusion

Monarchs are orange, scrub jays are blue, black and white skunks have a message for you. Find out the many different ways that critters use color in nature.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

 

Wild Wednesdays: Hooked on Fish

Did you know that there are eight endangered or threatened species of fish that call Utah home? Spend an hour with a naturalist and learn other cool facts about Utah’s diverse fish.  Observe Least Chub in the aquarium and meet some of the resident, fish eating birds.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.

 

Earth Day Celebration!  (full press release to come)

Come celebrate Earth Day at the Ogden Nature Center!  Enjoy Earth friendly exhibitors, demonstrations, entertainment, food, nature crafts, and fun activities.  Explore the trails, tour our green buildings and learn what you can do to improve the health of the planet. 

 

Wild Wednesdays: Earth Day Extravaganza

Head to the Ogden Nature Center and explore cool facts about planet Earth. How much do you know about our watery planet? Learn ways to do your part and help the Earth.  We will head out for a nature walk and pick-up trash around the Nature Center. Please meet in the Visitor Center.

 

Preschool Discovery Days: Floats and Fins and Things that Swim

Choose a date and time:

Tuesday, April 28th, and Thursday, April 30th

9:30 am, 11 am, 1 pm

$5 members/ $6 non-members

$5 per child for preschool groups over 5

For ages 3-5 and their accompanying adult

Try finding a frog or spotting a turtle as we explore the world of creatures that swim through hands-on activities, songs, stories & more. Enjoy making a magnet fish you can take home.

Imagine what it would be like to have teeth that never stop growing. Rodents make up 40% of all mammal species. Join an Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist as we explore the world of squirrels, mice, beavers and porcupines. Please meet in the Visitor Center.
