Here we are… it’s summer. Three days in and I was already hearing “I’m BBOOREED!” What?! We swam in the yard, did water balloons and the kids played with the neighbors. Obviously they needed activities away from home – and I learned quick that our trip to the grocery store was not going to cut it. So I got my stuff together and started to make a plan. So I wanted to spread the love and share with you 15 free or almost free activities to help mix up your summer days!
#1 – Mrs. Cavanaugh’s Chocolate Factory Tour: www.mrscavanaugh.com This tour is only $1 per person, you will learn about chocolate making, different chocolate and even get to sample – wahoo!
#2 – Davis County Library FIZZ BOOM READ Program: www.daviscountyutah.gov/library. Davis County Library has seriously stepped up their game! They have themed activities running through July 10th and their reading program. The kids LOVED it and it’s totally free. After that we got the kiddos a library card and they got to check out a book and movie. They were excited!
#3 – Utah State Kaysville Botanical Gardens – www.usubotanicalcenter.org. They have a lot fun activities week day mornings. Some are summer camps, but they have some fun weekday going on’s on their schedule. Click their Calendar page for more details. We love wondering around and eating a picnic there. Always fun things to look at.
#4 – Mueller Park – This is a childhood fav of mine! The kids love going up hiking (we usually do scavenger hunts while there) and it is a pretty easy hike if you stay right around the base area. We love bringing hot dogs and marshmallows and have a roast out too. Cost is $5 group and during the day it is mostly vacant. Make sure to check the burn conditions before heading up! Head 1800 south in Bountiful all the way to the top.
#5 – Wheeler Farm – www.wheelerfarm.com . This is outside Davis but worth the drive. Wagon rides, feed the ducks, and milk a cow? Fun and inexpensive! We love spending the day at the farm, looking at the animals and doing activities. We always pack a lunch and seriously spend the day.
#6 – Clark Planetarium - http://clarkplanetarium.org. Like most things we do, we like to make a day out of it. So we take the train and then Tracks over to Clark at the Gateway. Sometimes we will pop over to the fountain and get in some water time and shaved ice.
#7 – Liberty Park – Also in Salt Lake but so fun! Great park, splash pad, paddle boats, mini streams to play in, adorable vintage rides and carnival snacks – cotton candy anyone? We love Liberty Park and go several times through the summer… and always leave with a cotton candy!
#8 – Splash Pads – There are several local splash pads in the Davis County area. A quick google search will give you a list. Our favorite is Heritage Park 150 North Fairfield Rd. Kaysville.
#9 – Movies – Cinemark has a 10 movie for $5 pass which I think is totally worth it! Visit http://www.cinemark.com/summer-movie-clubhouse
If you are still hoping for free Kaysville Movie Theater is doing FREE KIDS SUMMER MATINEEs! They are Thursdays & Fridays at 12:00pm & 2:15pm. First come first serve. Visit thekaysvilletheater.com for more info!
#10 – B98.7 Family Fun Day at the Gallivan Center – FREE – thegallivancenter.com. These are super fun with bounce houses, treats, games and prizes. The kids loved it last summer and we plan on attending again this summer. The dates are June 17th, July 15th & August 12th 11:00am – 2:00pm
