Invasive Species Awareness Month
Saturday Workshop: Butterflies and Bees -  Planting Native Gardens to Attract
Natural Pollinators

All ages welcome
Find out what’s the buzz! Our native butterflies and bees are important pollinators for our ecosystem and agriculture; without them we wouldn’t have any food to eat.
Unfortunately, invasive plants have moved in and are taking away important pollinator habitat. Discover how you can help pollinators and how to make your own beautiful native gardens at home.  Please RSVP by March 31 to 801-621-7595.
 
Yellowstone: In the Valley of the Wolves
Saturday, April 1 from 10 am – 12 pm
Cost: Free for members / $5 for non-members

Wolves have always been a mysterious and contentious aspect of North America’s natural history. Join Lynn Weston, naturalist and longtime volunteer with the Yellowstone Wolf project, for an exploration into our changing relationship with wolves. Lynn’s talk will focus on wolves in Yellowstone National Park including their elimination, the “wolf wars,” reintroduction, and role in the wider ecosystem as well as their effect on current literature. Space is limited, so call 801-621-7595 to reserve your spot by Friday, March 31.
 
Preschool Discovery Days - The Shape of Nature
Choose a date and time:
Monday, April 3 or Tuesday, April 4
9:30 am, 11 am or 1 pm
$5 members / $6 nonmembers
$5 per child for preschool groups of 5 or more
For ages 3-5 and their accompanying adults
Join us as we explore shapes in nature! Circles, triangles and squares can be found in lots of animals and plants. Explore the trails with a naturalist in search of shapes, play games, sing songs and create some fun shape art. Dress for the weather. Pre-registration is required. Walk-ins will only be accepted when space is available.  Classes may be canceled due to low attendance.  Please call 801-621-7595 for more information and to register.
 
Weeding and Feeding – Dyer’s Woad
Tuesday,  April 4 from 3:30 – 4:30 pm

Find out why we are dying to remove this pesky yellow flower and join us for a meet and greet with Utah’s most notorious alien invader! Light refreshments will be served. A small service project of Dyer’s Woad removal will end our program. Come ready to get your hands dirty as we dig invasive species and restore our native habitats. Please meet in the Visitor Center.  No RSVP necessary.
 
Wild Wednesdays: The Wild Truth - An April Fool’s Day Program
Wednesday, April 5 at 3:45 pm
Free for ONC members
 $3 children / $4 seniors / $5 adults
All ages welcome
Nature can weave some pretty tall tales, but that doesn’t mean they’re not true.  Come out to the Ogden Nature Center and test your nature knowledge with a true or false game, then explore some of the most unbelievable animals and plants on the planet.  Please meet in the Visitor Center.
 
Earth Day Poster Contest Call for Entries
Entries must be received by 4 pm, Saturday, April 8
Late entries may not be judged
No Fee to Enter.
Entries must be 9”x12” using the theme,
“Be’Utah’ful……My Favorite Utah Landscape”
Please do not glue anything onto your project

Art posters will be on display in Ogden Nature Center’s L.S. Peery Education Center April 22 through May 20, 2017.  Entries will not be returned, but may be picked up May 22 through May 26.  After May 26 contest entries become the property of the Ogden Nature Center.  Prizes will be awarded to three winners in each grade, with one grand prize winner per grade.  The winners will be invited to an awards program on Earth Day, April 22, at 11 am.

City Nature Challenge
Friday, April 14 - Tuesday, April 18
Ages: All
Join our efforts to document the plants and wildlife in Northern Utah during the nationwide City Nature Challenge! This friendly competition started in California as a celebration of national Citizen Science Day and this year the Ogden Nature Center has partnered with the Natural History Museum of Utah and Thanksgiving Point to bring it to Utah. Simply download the iNaturalist app, join the City Nature Challenge for the county where you live; Utah, Salt Lake, or Weber/Davis, and get outside April 14-18 with your family to record the plant and animal life you discover. The more you observe and record, the better your chances of winning fabulous prizes!

Scout Saturdays

Have our teacher naturalists help your scout pass off badge requirements for $5 per scout/ 45 minute class on Scout Saturdays at the Nature Center.
Classes include:
“Native vs Invasive Plants” from 9-9:45 am
“Conservation” from 10-10:45 am
“Venomous Reptiles” from 11-11:45 am
Reservation and a non-refundable deposit required.

Seed Saving Workshop

Locally produced seeds yield hardier, more delicious crops. This is how our ancestors farmed sustainably for over 10,000 years and it’s the only way to recreate such a system today. Join the Ogden Seed Exchange to learn how to select, pollinate, harvest, clean and save seeds produced in your own garden. No RSVP necessary. Please check in at the Visitor Center.
 
Aliens vs Predators: Fighting Invasive
