TIPS FOR TRAINING FOR THE HUNTSMAN HEROES 140 & 5K.

Tips for Cycling

1. Make sure that you have the right size bike for you and that it fits properly
2. Use your gears to help you become more efficient
3. Don’t psyche yourself out about climbing hills
4. Have fun
5. Riders, from beginner to advanced, should always remember to drink and eat while on the bike. I recommend a bottle of water, and around 200 calories worth of food or drink per hour on a ride. Always practice eating and drinking on your training rides so you know what works for you during your event.
6. It’s important to train in less than ideal weather, especially headwinds. If you can ride with a friend or teammate, practice drafting and take turns pushing into the wind. Lowering your gear, and tucking or riding in the drops will also reduce the drag, making it easier as well.
7. Practice basic bike maintenance. It is easy to drop it off at the shop, but remember that the more you know about your bike, the better you will ride.

5 fantastic tips for a 5k.

1. Get in a habit and be consistent. Get out even if it’s only a few minutes.
2. Go for distance and don’t worry about pace. Set goals like walking to the end of the street, around the block, etc.
3. Allow time for rest. Rest is part of every training plan and is very important. Bodies need time to acclimate and recover.
4. Make it fun! Remember why you are out there. Enjoy the experiences.
5. Find a group. Being part of a group helps with all the other tips! They also help motivate and give a sense of belonging.
